Six-hour outage Dec. 21 affects Riggins area

Problem due to trees, heavy snow in lines

— Power was disrupted for nearly six hours to Riggins-area residents last week due to weather-related damage to a 138-kV transmission line.

According to Idaho Power, the outage occurred around 2 p.m. that Monday, Dec. 21, due to heavy snow and trees in the lines serving Riggins as well as areas in Adams County. A total 1,356 customers were affected; service was restored that day about 8 p.m.

The outage came on the heels of a series of winter storms that began hitting the McCall area more than a week prior. Continued outages due to snowfall and wind-toppled trees kept Idaho Power crews busy responding to incidents through Valley County.
