— Marty Thompson of Nezperce will celebrate his 80th birthday Sunday, Jan. 10, at The American Legion Hall in Nezperce from 1-5 p.m., with an open house hosted by his children and their families.

He was born Jan. 18, 1936, in Nezperce, to Martin L. and Lenorah (Harbke) Thompson. He joined his three sisters at the family home north of Nezperce and has lived there his entire life.

He attended Harbke School and Nezperce elementary and high schools graduating in 1954. He then attended the University of Idaho until his dad’s death in 1955, and has been on the farm since. He married Barbara Johnson of Winona Oct. 15, 1960, raising two children while farming and ranching. He remains active in every aspect of ranching from daily feeding to hauling cattle and putting up hay in the summer. He is also an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Idaho/Lewis County Cattle Association.

Besides his daughter and son, he has seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
