WHITE BIRD — Well, the first month of 2015 is already history. Crazy! A year that seems to me should be in a futuristic sci-fi movie is right here, right now. I guess I’m getting old. That stinks, because I heard old age doesn’t last long, and guess what, neither will 2015. Each day is a gift. Practice some random acts of kindness, give someone a compliment and make somebody smile. Today is the day you could make a positive difference on this planet. You’re running out of time.

I’m happy to report that I had several calls from people wanting a mobile food bank here in White Bird. I think that’s great. So, now that I know it would be appreciated, I’ll take the next step into seeing if we can make it happen! I’ll let you know what I find out.

The Rebekahs are once again raffling off their wonderful valentine’s baskets. These baskets are always stuffed full of all kinds of great stuff. The proceeds from this raffle will go back into the Rebekahs’ fund, which in turn, gets put right back into our community in some way or another. Our ladies always support us, so support them and buy some tickets! You can find tickets at the local businesses. The drawings for the baskets will take place at the Fireman’s Valentine Dance and Auction at Hoot’s on Feb. 14. You do not have to be present to win, but why on earth would you not be there.

The Fireman’s Valentine’s Dance and Auction will be held Feb. 14 at Hoot’s. The White Bird chamber is sponsoring this event. This is a huge fund-raiser for all Grangeville, Riggins, White Bird and the Salmon River Rural fire departments. It starts at 7 p.m. There will be a live and silent auction. There will also be live music by Joaquin and Verna Lowe and Dave Dixon. The silent auction will end at 10 p.m. and the live auction will take place during the bands’ breaks, until everything is auctioned off. If you would like to help out in any way with this event, call Bryan or Barb Lowe at 839-2444. We still need items to auction. Bake a pie, rummage through your closets and dig out that present you got that you’ll never use. Everything helps. If you would like to donate anything at all, you can drop it off at Canyon House. Hoot’s will be serving up prime rib, baby back and BBQ ribs in the restaurant before the dance and auction. Support your firefighters and enjoy a night out with your sweetheart and your neighbors on Valentine’s Day at Hoot’s. Cost to get in is $5 a person.

The cribbage tournament last Saturday brought in 16 players. Kevin took first and Randy got second. They play crib every Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Silver Dollar. Everyone is welcome to join.

Happy birthday this week to: Mollie Pearce, Guy Ellibee, Bill Fogleman, Larry and Jan Barany, Scott Hagen, Mathew Bauman, Janet Klement, Daryl Mullinix, Tim Emig, Shanna Legg and Tate Stowers.
