GHS girls bust Orofino

— Led by Central Idaho League "player of the year" Hailey Sullivan, the Grangeville girls took one step closer to a district tournament title with a 64-35 win over Orofino during the first round Saturday at Genesee.

Sullivan totaled 21 points, having tallied 19 points during the first half giving GHS a 46-33 halftime lead. Sullivan scored six during a 9-2 run in Grangeville's favor after the opening tip-off.

Kaleala Bass added five quick points late in the first quarter, putting GHS ahead 18-5 early. Bass finished with 11, and along with Madison Brown (6 points) and Addie Lutz (4) was named one of the CIL's all-league second-teamers.

Also scoring for Grangeville were Sarah Wilson (11), Erica Fortin (5), Lizz Forsmann (4) and Mackenzie Kennedy (2).

Up next, Grangeville will return to Genesee to play for the district championship at 7:30 p.m. Monday night, Feb. 9.
