Deadline is next Wednesday, Jan. 14, for specialty crop producers to sign up for the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance (NAP) program through the USDA Farm Service Agency.
For specialty crop producers who are ineligible for crop insurance, NAP can help protect against losses from weather and natural disasters.
NAP offers more than in the past. Previously producers were covered at 55 percent of the market price for losses exceeding 50 percent, but now it can cover 65 percent of the crop at 100 percent of the price.
For new, low-income or previously underserved farmers, there is free basic coverage, and higher coverage at discounted premiums.
Go online: www.fsa.usda.gov/nap or call the FSA office in Grangeville at 983-1050.
