COTTONWOOD — Cottonwood Butte Ski Area opened last weekend. They plan to be open on weekends from now on. It is really a good hill and offers a challenge if that’s what you want. They offer lessons also.

The Knights of Columbus breakfast is this coming Sunday, Jan. 11, from 7-10 a.m. at the KC Hall. Anytime you don’t have to cook is a good time!

Deep in the stillness of winter, the team of spiritual directors at St Gertrude’s Spirit Center is ready for the upcoming “Come to the Quiet” retreat. “It is a quiet place in a noisy world,” says Sister Lillian Englert, retreat facilitator and certified spiritual director. She helped create the “Come to the Quiet” retreat in response to requests for individually-directed retreat experiences. While each person has an encounter with silence, they are not necessarily alone. “That’s why this retreat is in a group so there is support for one another.” But she is quick to emphasize that each retreat experience is different from the others. Each person chooses an individual theme and goes at her own pace with her own spiritual director. A person’s retreat may also include faith sharing, creative expression, body prayer and ritual. “No two retreat experiences are alike,” she says. Weeklong: Friday, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m. to Friday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m. Suggested donation: $510 single. Weekend Only Option: Friday, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m. to Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1:30 p.m. Suggested donation: $215 single. For information call the Spirit Center at 962-2000 or e-mail

The next Engaged Encounter Weekend will be held Jan. 16-18 at the Monastery of St. Gertrude. The weekend is for couples who plan to be married this year. It is Catholic based but is open to all faiths.

During the weekend couples are led through looking at all aspects of marriage. So we can promote communication in marriage. The wedding is a day, the marriage is a lifetime. Deadline for registration is Jan. 9. The next EE weekend will be held April 17-19. There will be no further encounters until September!

Crab feed is Saturday

GREENCREEK — The St. Anthony’s Society crab feed is this Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Greencreek Community Hall, social at 5:30 p.m. This is a fund-raiser for the community of Greencreek and a good way to have a fun evening with your friends. Cost is $30. Get tickets at B & A Performance Auto or Cottonwood Credit Union.

Our April weekend tends to get full, so we encourage those who can, to attend the January weekend. Contact Eric and Alea Wassmuth, the EE Registration couple, at, 962-2372 or http://www.
