Mobile food bank a possibility

We have an opportunity to have a mobile food bank here in White Bird, where a truck would come at a specific time to the school to deliver food. If this is something that you would be interested in, let me know ASAP. If you don’t call me, it won’t happen, 839-2234.

— Well, here we are in the middle of January already. The days fly by, so before you know it, it will be February.

The White Bird Gun Club started their 10-week shoot last Sunday. This year there are new shooters, including two new junior shooters, Canyon Lowe and Triston Scott. Both boys are doing really well. Canyon’s grandpa told him that if he shot a 16 or better, he’d buy him a vest. Canyon dropped his last bird, giving him a score of 15, which is really good for a first-time shooter. Maybe next week he’ll get a vest. They have practice every Saturday and they score on their Sunday shoots. You are more than welcome to come down and watch, have a cheeseburger and hangout with your neighbors, 10 a.m.

There will be the fireman’s ball at Hoot’s on Valentine’s Day. This is a huge fund-raiser for all the local fire departments. Grangeville, Riggins, White Bird and the Salmon River Rural Fire departments are all in on making this event happen. It starts at 7 p.m. There will be a live and silent auction and live music by Joaquin and Verna Lowe and Dave Dixon. If you would like to help out in any way with this event, call Bryan and Barb Lowe at 839-2444. We need items to auction. If you would like to donate anything at all, let one of your volunteer firefighters know. Hoot’s will be serving up prime rib, baby back and barbecue ribs in the restaurant before the dance and auction. I hope to see you all there supporting the folks who you hope never have to come to your house! We are very lucky to have such a great group of people who are always there for us in emergency situations. Support and show your love for your firefighters on Valentine’s Day at Hoot’s. It’ll be a fun time!

The cribbage tournament on Jan. 3 brought in 16 players. Jim took first and Nick got second. Last Saturday, there were 20 players. Judy got first and Christy got second. They play crib every Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Silver Dollar. Everyone is welcome to join.

Happy birthday this week to: Devon Schultz, Aaron Howard, Tasha Zumwalt, Marcus Johnson, Peter Pulos, Jim Kitchen, Jamie Sarbacher, Jacob Gabrielson, Richard Eller, Elaine Anderson, Annelle Urbahn and Derek Berks.
