— Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced the appointment today of attorney Gregory FitzMaurice to the position of 2nd District judge in Grangeville.

FitzMaurice succeeds 2nd District Judge Michael Griffin who retired at the beginning of this year.

“I continue to be encouraged that the Judicial Council sends me great candidates for these essential positions,” Governor Otter said. “I’m confident that Judge FitzMaurice will demonstrate the kind of professionalism that has come to exemplify those serving in our judicial branch of government. I also want to extend my sincere thanks to Judge Griffin for his years of dedicated service to the people of Idaho’s 2nd Judicial District.”

Judge FitzMaurice’s appointment is effective immediately.

After graduating from the University of Idaho, College of Law, FitzMaurice has spent his entire legal career in Idaho, beginning as a law clerk for former Idaho Supreme Court Justice Charles Donaldson. He has maintained his own law firm in Grangeville since 1980.

FitzMaurice and his wife, Chris, have four children.
