Bus service to take residents to McCall weekly

RIGGINS — Great news for your health and the health of our community: In addition to the excellent medical care available locally, you can now ride free of charge with the Salmon River Transit to St. Luke’s McCall Medical Center to access additional diagnostic services and medical specialists you might need beginning Feb. 6. You can make appointments to see local physicians, Currey, Curtin, Hall and Ostermiller who typically work on Fridays; you can schedule dentist and eye doctor appointments as well. This opportunity is made available through a grant and a handful of persistent locals who care about you. The bus leaves Riggins Community Center at 8:15 a.m., makes brief stops at the Irwin Center/Riggins Manor and south into New Meadows to pick up riders, and arrives at St. Luke’s McCall in time for 10 a.m. appointments. The St. Luke’s clinics will work with you to arrange Friday appointments whenever possible. The bus is ADA accessible and can accommodate two wheelchairs comfortably and safely.

In addition to taking you to your medical appointments, the bus will make stops at McCall-area businesses such as the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the thrift store so you can get the things you need. Caregivers, family members, and friends can ride too, as long as there is room on the bus. Schedule or re-schedule your next medical appointment at St. Luke’s McCall clinics and other healthcare facilities to a Friday starting Feb. 6, between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Reserve your seat on the bus 48 hours in advance if possible, by calling Nightfeather Bogan at 628-2394. The bus leaves the Riggins Community Center at 8:15 a.m. and returns by 3:15 p.m. or sooner that same day.

Another sweet idea for a Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone in your life is a DVD of Salmon River High School annuals. Rocke Wilson has been collecting and scanning Riggins High School annuals; to date he has scanned 1948 and much of 1950, then all of 51 through 71,74, 75, 76, 80, 81, 82, 85 and 89. He has the senior pictures from the first nine years of 1941 through 1949 which he has put these all as jpegs on a DVD. He will mail you a copy. He is asking for a donation of $5 plus $2.32 shipping and handling which goes to the Riggins ambulance to help fund new equipment. Even if you still have your annuals it’s really a much more convenient way to view them and you can zoom in when you want or even print them. Thanks, Rocke, for the $170 already raised for the ambulance fund.

Salmon River Jet Boat fund-raiser will be held Saturday, March 14, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Salmon River Inn in Riggins. A portion of proceeds will benefit Salmon River Schools.
