Corral Dust

For several decades in past issues, a column entitled “Corral Dust” ran. In honor of the upcoming Border Days season, we have decided to revive this old standby.

Can you believe it’s time for Border Days already? Thanks to the major rodeo sponsors Gortsema Motors, Asker’s Harvest Foods and Les Schwab Tire Center. For a handy little 5 by 7 schedule of events, if you didn’t get one in the Free Press last week, stop by the newspaper office and pick one up.

I hear Triple Bar Drill Team members have been working hard and they also have new shirts. Look for them in the parades as well as performing at each rodeo.

This year’s team includes Border Days princess Shandra Madden and Rachel Kelley as first leaders, Colby Canaday and Grace Vopat as second leaders, and Maggie Chmelik and Jillian Hausladen (Triple Bar princess) as shotgunners.

Additional members include Camden Barger, Bella Klapprich, Macenzie Farris, Micaela Farris (Triple Bar Queen), Molly Deford, Kaylee Page, Kayliana Shaw, Krista Cerecero, Dani Aiken, Rachel Stevens and McKenzie Cruson.

Triple Bar Drill Team has been entertaining crowds for 58 years and is currently led by Tracy Sharp.

It’s time for the annual Firecracker Fun Run, set for Saturday, July 4.

This annual 5k fun run will begin and end on Main Street. This event is sponsored annually by the Syringa Hospital Foundation. Preregister by today, July 1, for $10 (race only). Shirts may be available on race day on first-come, first-served basis and may be paid for at check-in. Cost is $10 for T-shirt, $14 for tank top.

Register by stopping by Syringa Hospital for a form or on-line at Check-in on race day is set for 7:45 a.m., at State and Main in Grangeville, adjacent to Heritage Square. The race starts at 8 a.m. Register on the day of the event for $13. Participants are invited to join in many ways — walk, run, push a stroller or a friend in a wheelchair.

Kids Klub “Flip this Float” participants will meet at Baker Truck Service Friday, July 3, 1:45 p.m. The parade starts at 2 p.m. Everyone who helped with the float is invited to ride. Thanks to Scott Godfrey for once again pulling the float!

By the way, Kids Klub is raffling a Razor ATV. Purchase tickets from any board member or at Rae Brothers Sporting Goods on Main Street.
