Greencreek’s celebration is ‘grand’

Cottonwood News

COTTONWOOD — Congratulations to Tony Jentges who was grand marshal for the 4th of July celebration in Greencreek this year. He did a “grand” job! New this year to the event was the Old Time Fiddlers. We enjoyed listening to them. A newcomer to Greencreek, Gary Detrick, was instrumental in getting them here. Also added to the event this year was the presentation of Quilts of Valor to three veterans from Greencreek. Herb Stubbers, U.S. Navy; Lloyd Nuxoll, Army National Guard; and Richard Nuxoll, U.S. Army, all received quilts. They were designed and machine quilted by a local group of ladies from the Cottonwood area known as the Camas Prairie Quilts of Valor Group. These talented ladies have distributed 24 quilts to people in this local community in the last three months. They are always in need of donations of money or fabric to keep this project going. They did a beautiful job on the quilts. The goal is for all veterans to have a quilt.

The Knights of Columbus breakfast will be at the KC Hall on Sunday, July 12. So you can go out for breakfast and dinner, and not have to cook.

Winners of the Joe Seubert Memorial Scholarship have been announced by St. Augustine Student Center in Moscow. Emily McHugh and Megan Seubert each won a $100 scholarship. Congratulations, girls!

The Monastery of St. Gertrude will hold Golden Jubilee Celebrations on July 25 at 1:30 p.m. for Sister Barbara Ann Bielenberg, Sister Margie Schmidt and Sister Eliza Martinez. Congratulations to them, also.

Summit Academy is having a car raffle again this year. This time it is a donated car, a Mazda Miata. It is a cute little sports car that anyone would love to drive. Contact Ken Stubbers at 962-3405 or any school family for tickets or to take the car to a local event and sell tickets. You could be a winner at the drawing next spring.

Second Hand Treasures Cottonwood Yard Sale is July 18. It will be held in the Grange building on Main Street in Cottonwood. Many new items have been added so come and see. We appreciate Sandy Sommers for organizing this event and being so generous with her time!

Camas Prairie moms are sponsoring a book and gift sale on Monday, July 13, from 4-7:30 p.m. at the CEC building. Materials and resources will be provided by 4 Marks Media (Dave and Kerry Goeckner).
