Volunteers sought for Clearwater River cleanup Saturday

The Clearwater Management Council (CMC) is in need of volunteers to help with the annual Clearwater Cleanup Day. This year’s event will be held beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. Volunteers will scour the shoreline and islands for trash and other unsightly debris that takes away from the overall experience of floating the Clearwater River.

The CMC is committed to the betterment of the Clearwater River and is comprised of Idaho, Lewis, Nez Perce, Latah and Clearwater counties; Idaho Fish and Game; the Bureau of Land Management; National Park Service; and the Army Corps of Engineers.

The group is seeking help from those who love the Clearwater River to volunteer to ride in boats and also folks who have access to vessels (rafts, drift boats, and/or jet boats) to transport volunteers and trash to dump sites. Volunteers will be responsible for life jackets, gloves, and food. CMC will provide trash bags, water and Gatorade.

To help determine the river segments the cleanup will focus on and the number of volunteers who will be available, interested individuals are asked to contact Judy Culver, BLM outdoor recreation planner at or 962-3796. In addition, the group is looking for volunteers to provide boats for the event. Meeting locations will be determined as necessary to accommodate each river segment logistics.
