— Second Hand Treasures Cottonwood Yard Sale is July 18. It will be held in the grange building on Main Street in Cottonwood from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Many new items have been added so come and see — lots of toys, books, games, puzzles and things of interest to kids. They are doing Christmas in July, so lots of decorations, etc. Other items include twin beds, a crib that makes into a junior bed, electric range, small chest freezer, dresser with a mirror, two nightstands, two TV tables, bookcase, assorted tools, fishing poles, and an electric handicap chair mounted on the wall for getting up and down stairs. Proceeds go to Summit Academy. Arnzen Drug, Purses Galore, Pure Elegance and possibly more downtown businesses will have sidewalk sales.

We had a wonderful turnout for Fr. Paul’s anniversary party. His family was here to help him celebrate this milestone in his life. His younger brother told stories about him when they were young. Fr. Paul is a wonderful pastor and does a great job of being our shepherd.

The ring-necked pheasants that we have been raising are growing fast and are big enough to turn out now. It is fun to watch them go free. At first they are pretty stupid as they have never been outside the building. But they learn quickly and land in the trees. One landed in the mud on the edge of a creek, and it took a while for her to figure that one out! Another landed on a metal roof and slid down to the eves trough and just sat there wondering what a strange world this is!

Rain last week finally broke the hot spell. It was a welcome relief. A few of the farmers are harvesting already, but I’ll bet they didn’t mind the rain either. It should help the pastures to green up again. Harvest should be in full swing soon, way ahead of our normal schedule.
