Fire burning southwest of Slate Creek Ranger Station



— The Center Ridge fire approximately three to four miles southwest of Slate Creek Ranger Station was reported at 12:23 p.m. Thursday afternoon and met by aerial attack from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The fire is currently 10 acres, and the Forest Service is checking smoke reports, including one at Bufford Flats. "Aircraft are working it, and we have people on the ground," fire information officer Rae Brooks said.

Update (2:50 p.m. Thursday): The area did not receive rain from this afternoon's storms.

Update (6 p.m. Thursday): In the wake of this afternoon's lightning storms, the Forest Service is following up on smoke reports and has confirmed three fires in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests' south zone: Center Ridge, Green Ridge and Jersey.
