Senior citizen dinner, auction will be June 5

RIGGINS — “It was the third of June another sleepy, dusty Delta day….” Do you remember that song? Now, it will be running in my head all day long... how about yours? It was in 1967 that Bobby Gentry sang “Ode to Billie Joe.” Google to get all the lyrics.

The annual senior citizen fund-raiser featuring an auction and lasagna dinner along with the famous delicious dessert auction is this Friday, June 5, 6 p.m. at the Salmon River Community Church. This dinner and fun evening is open to the public. If you have any items for the live or silent auction...new or slightly used…call Pastor Jim 628-4043.

The 17th annual Big Water Blow Out Festival is this Saturday, June 6. Go to www.bigwaterblowout.com or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bwbrf.

Summer Sports Camps sponsored by ASK and coached by Paula Tucker will be held at Salmon River High School. Basketball camp is June 8–11. Volleyball camp will be held June 15–17. Outdoor camp will be June 22–25. Call 628-2770.

ASK students will once again be going to Silverwood Theme Park for a day of fun, food and rides. Tickets will be available for all eligible participants. Anyone is welcome to purchase tickets at ASK’s discounted price, but must go on the specified days to receive the discount. Call ASK at 628-2770.

The annual Brushy Flat Reunion will be held next Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14, beginning with a dinner Saturday at the Riggins Community Center at 5 p.m. (MDT).

Salmon season is still in full swing. Lots of fishermen/ women are casting their lines for that elusive salmon!

Vacation Bible School, VBS, will be held at the Salmon River Community Church June 29-July 3 with the fun famous Texas team once again leading the way. VBS week for kids 4 years-fifth grade will meet in the mornings… activities will be held in the evenings for the junior high and senior high teens, sixth grade and up.

The 4th of July is just a month away… Riggins will have fireworks once again on the 4th of July! Salmon River Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 4th of July fireworks and funding, $1,500; donations from the public are needed to help fund the remaining $1,500 for this event. The big event will be held in the Riggins City Park. Send donations to Salmon River Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 289, Riggins, ID 83549. Families are encouraged to gather in the park for visiting and celebrating and be ready for the fireworks show at dusk.
