— Ready, set, let’s play! The Kooskia Saddliers Inc., riding club has a new arena, and it’s open for business.

“The work is almost complete and we’re getting into action,” said Saddliers president LeAnn Nelson. “Members have been enjoying riding in the arena for about a month and the ground is awesome.”

The club occupied this location from the early ’70s to the end of 1996, Nelson explained.

“Now, thanks to the generosity of Catherine Wilson, we have been able to return to the property,” she said. The location is about one-half a mile northwest of Kooskia off U.S. Highway 12. After going through Kooskia, take a left at the kiosk toward Kamiah and the arena is on the left-hand side.

Club members said they would like to extend their gratitude to all the dedicated folks who made the move happen, especially Eric Nelson’s perseverance for the last four months, along with Curtis Boller and Troy Biesecker.

“We have several play days and o-mok-sees planned for the summer,” Nelson said. “With river access and shade the length of the club grounds, this is a premier facility with a natural sand arena, 255 by 130 feet, suitable for about any event, complete with roping boxes and stock pens.”

The site was welcomed at the grand opening play day event and barbecue May 31.

The club has a fun ride scheduled for June 13 on Harris Ridge at the Don and Linda Carr Ranch. This is a three-to-four hour trail ride.

The first o-mok-see is set for June 20, 10 a.m., start time with high point and reserve awards for each age group.
