CLEARWATER — The Clearwater to Elk City Wagon Road Celebration is a historical trip down the wagon road where supplies were hauled to the gold fields in the Elk City area beginning in 1895. The annual event will be held this year July 18-19 in Clearwater. Activities include a parade, museum, quilt show, vendors, lunch, raffles, historical presentation, old-time gospel hour and musical variety show on Saturday.
On Sunday, beginning at 6:30 a.m., is a breakfast and at 8:15 a.m., a guided tour of the 53 mile wagon road begins in Clearwater and ends in Elk City.
The Wagon Road Museum is located in Clearwater in the Grange Hall. It tells the story of the early pioneers to the area and the hauling of supplies to the Elk City area gold mines. The museum is open July 18, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and July 19, 6:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Other hours can be arranged by telephone.
