RIGGINS — Fireworks will be lighting up the Riggins skies from the Riggins City Park Saturday, July 4, beginning at dusk. No personal fireworks will be allowed in the city park! Please, respect this request by the City of Riggins and The Salmon River Chamber of Commerce, so we can plan 4th of July celebrations in the years to come. Families are encouraged to gather in the park for visiting and celebrating the 4th. Take your own snacks and lawn chairs and plan to have a sparkling good time. The Salmon River Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 4th of July fireworks and funding $1,500. Donations from the public are needed to help fund the remaining $1,500 for this event. Donation cans are set up in the Riggins businesses or send donations to Salmon River Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 289, Riggins, ID 83549.

“Every Hero Has a Story” is Salmon River Public Library’s summer reading program which will begin next Wednesday, July 1, and meet each Wednesday in July from 1-2 p.m. for ages 1-8. There will be stories, books, crafts and goodies for the kids.

All veterans and their spouses and veteran widows are cordially invited to the Salmon River American Legion veterans’ appreciation dinner and Quilts of Honor presentation this Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. (MDT) in the Riggins City Park. Dinner will be provided by the American Legion Post #130 in appreciation of their service to our great country of the United States of America. Take your lawn chairs for comfortable seating.

Riggins Assembly of God Church is hosting a potato bar dinner this Sunday, June 28, at 6 p.m. for Dustin and Shelby Rinker. Dustin and Shelby are joining Chi Alpha Ministries at Carroll College in Helena, Mont., to share in their passion to minister to college students. Dustin was a 2010 graduate of Salmon River, starred in football for and graduated from Carroll College in December 2014, and is the son of Eric and Wendy Hook of Riggins. Rinkers will share how God has called them into this exciting ministry and how we in Riggins can partner with them in prayer and financial support. If you are unable to make the dinner and would like to contribute to Dustin and Shelby contact Pastor Scheline at 630-4444 or Tracie at 628-3530.

Salmon River Community Church will hold its annual picnic at Rapid River Fish Hatchery this Sunday, June 28, after church to welcome the Texas Team and get VBS week off to a great start. Everyone is invited to attend.

VBS, Vacation Bible School, will be held at the Salmon River Community Church next week, June 29-July 3, with the fun famous Texas team once again leading the way. VBS week for kids 4 years-fifth grade will meet in the mornings… activities will be held in the evenings for the junior high and senior high teens, sixth grade and up. Plan now for your kids to attend. If you would like to donate cookies for snacks for the kids for the week, call Judy Thibodeaux at 628-4043. There will be an estate sale at the late Hattie Stinnett’s, 1130 South Main Street, right here in Riggins, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 10, 11 and 12, beginning at 9 a.m. each day and running through 5 p.m.

Hot Summer Nights sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce is just a month away! Yes, Riggins City Park will be spinning with vintage cars, games, bands, music, and events as well as shining with the stars at the Famous Talent Show and the Amazing “Canyon Camillions” on Friday night as well as a dance on Saturday night. Food and beverages will be served all day and night. Make plans now to be in Riggins Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25.
