GRANGEVILLE Dogs now have a dedicated area at Lions Park to romp.
At its March 2 meeting, the Grangeville City Council approved an ordinance designating a portion of the park, east of Three Mile Creek, for dogs. Along with this, council adopted a new rule establishing a $300 infraction for pet owners who fail to clean up their dog’s fecal matter left in city parks.
The new park usage goes into effect upon ordinance publication and signs are posted at the facility.
Ordinance changes resulted from an offer by Grangeville businessman Kevin Asker to fund half the costs of dog waste collection stations at Lions Park, which traditionally on its eastern side has been used by owners to run their pets. Council consensus last Monday night was for placing three stations.
