GPD advises vigilance following report of scam

— The Grangeville Police Department is advising residents to be wary of mail scams.

Recently a resident reported receiving a letter from Corner Stone Brokerage and Financial Services stating the recipient had won the $250,000 Communication Mega Sweepstakes Raffle. Enclosed was a $4,564.45 check stating this was an advance payment to cover tax and insurance handling fees. Instruction were to cash the check and then send $4,000 to the claims department.

“Obviously, when someone wins money they don’t have to pay money to get it!” said GPD Chief Morgan Drew.

At this point, no reports have been made to GPD of individuals losing money in this scam.
