Blood drive will be held March 31

RIGGINS — The Riggins annual Spring Red Cross Blood Drive will be held March 31 from 2-7 p.m. and April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salmon River Lodge. Contact Joy at 628-3224 or Kris at 628-3572 to schedule your appointment as soon as possible. Every unit of blood given saves lives. They may still need some cookies as well as volunteers to help the days of the draw.

RIGGINS — The Salmon River Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Clyde Hirst, Kelly Thompson and Jeff Joyce for putting the new salmon sign made by Trickwood on top of the Visitor Information Center above the Riggins City Park. It looks very nice and matches the carved salmon that hangs over the park bench.

The Salmon River Art Guild March Miniature Madness Show will hold its second annual “mini” art show this Saturday, March 21, at Hoot’s Café just south of White Bird.

Congratulations to the Salmon River Junior High School Lady Savages who are basketball tournament champs again! The Lady Savages won four round robin games and two tournament games! Tri-valley gave the girls a great championship barnburner game! Congrats, Hannah Hollon, Lotus Harper, Jordyn Pottenger, Chevelle Shepherd, Sofie Branstetter, Emily Diaz and Sierra Bovey …and kudos to our great coaches Paula Tucker and Layne Tucker.

Lady Savages and Salmon River Savages chosen for 1A Long Pin League Conference basketball honors are 1A first team - Payton Branstetter, 1A second team - Sara Laritz, and 1A honorable mention - Ryan Simonson. Savages 1A player of the year - Jimmy Shepherd, freshman player of the year - Devan Branstetter, coach of the year - Charlie Shepherd. 1A first team - Tucker Boyd, 1A second team - Alex Diaz, and 1A honorable mention - Steven Hackler.

Riggins Rodeo Queen 2015 will be Isabella (Bella) Klapprich from Grangeville, with her princess Ryan Simonson of Riggins. Patty Solberg of Riggins will be the honored grand marshal of the 2015 Riggins Rodeo to be held Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3.

Spring break for Salmon River Junior High and High School and Riggins Elementary School is Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27, with a weekend on each end — time for some fun in the sun and time with family and friends.

Easter is Sunday, April 5. The annual Riggins Easter egg hunt will be held on the Riggins Elementary grounds Saturday, April 4. More information next week.

Salmon River Community Church is having its third annual Easter Sunrise Service at the Steelhead Inn, hosted by Kenn and Nancy Brown Sunday, April 5. Service starts at 7 a.m. with a light breakfast/fellowship to follow. Regular services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring a chair, wear a coat, bring a blanket, and enjoy an early morning together with song and service.

Riggins Assembly of God Church will have its Easter potluck breakfast Sunday, April 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and regular church service at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited to join on Easter morning to celebrate “Jesus is Alive.”

Gary and Donna Brimacomb, part-time residents of Riggins, and part-time residents of Apache Junction, Ariz., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Apache Junction with renewing of their wedding vows conducted by Pastor Tim and their best man from 1955, Lemony, was again standing up with them with a dinner following. Their son, Curt, and wife, Stef Brimacomb of Riggins, were with them hosting the big event in their park community center with their many friends. Congratulations to a beautiful couple!

“Color the Canyon 5K” will be held on the Salmon River High School football field May 9. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the run starts at 10 a.m. Sign-up fees are $20 for adults and $10 for youth before April 10. Everyone is invited to join in on this fun run fund-raiser for kids. Register on-line at or you can sign up at ASK with paper and pencil.

Salmon River School District will have elections for three of its five board of trustee zones, zones one, two, and three, Tuesday May 19. Zone one is the zone north of town, zone two is the zone west of town and zone three is the zone in town. See the district website for a detailed map of the board of trustee zones.

SRHS juniors interested in attending the American Legion Boys State or the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State should attend a meeting Monday, April 13, at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall with parents. A requirement is that juniors must have enough credits to graduate by their senior year. If students have any questions, they can ask last year’s delegate, Mitchell Evans.

Any junior interested in applying for the Interscholastic Star Student Recognition Scholarship Award may pick up an application at the SRHS office. Five recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship to a college of choice. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1.
