COTTONWOOD — The Grangeville YWCA Purse Auction to benefit local victims of domestic violence and sexual assault will be held Saturday, May 2, 4 p.m., at The Hangout, 603 Front Street, Cottonwood. There is no cost to attend the fund-raiser; however, pulled pork sandwiches, salad and drink will be available for $10 per plate.

“One hundred percent will go to the Grangeville YWCA,” Hangout owners Ron and Debbie Schnider said.

The purse auction will include a variety of items for men, women and children which everyone can bid on and pay for that night. In addition, a $5 purse table will be available. The event is family friendly.

Additional purses – empty or full – are sought for the event.

“We hope to have them by April 1 just for inventory sake,” Debbie said, “but we will accept them up until the time of the auction.”

Cash donations are also accepted and are tax deductible.

Drop-off locations for purses and cash include the Grangeville YWCA office at 221 West Main Street, No. 21; The Hangout in Cottonwood; the University of Idaho Extension Office in Nezperce; and the Grangeville Flower Shop which is offering 25 percent off any purse purchased at the store for the event.

In addition to purses, bring new or old lipstick tubes. These will be used in a confidential way to help women who experience domestic violence.

For questions call Grangeville YWCA advocate Kristy Beckstead at 983-0888 or Debbie Schnider at 962-7383.
