Positions contested for hospital, school boards in May 19 elections

Board positions will be contested in the upcoming May 19 elections for the Syringa Hospital and Mt. View School District 244 (MVSD).

Syringa Hospital Board

Three people have filed for one four-year term: Morris Bentley of Grangeville, Steven Didier of Kooskia and Paula Calcaterra of Harpster. For the two-year-term position, filed are Judy Scribner and Barbara Essen, both of Grangeville.

Uncontested: Two six-year-term positions are open, sought by Dave Green and Craig Spencer, both of Grangeville.


One four-year-term each is open in zones 1, 2 and 4.

Zone 2 is contested with candidates Julia York and Lyn Jaques-Krzeminski of Elk City, Casey Smith of Clearwater and Paul Baldwin of Harpster.

Uncontested is zone 1, sought by Lot Smith of Grangeville, and zone 4, sought by Michael Dominguez of Kooskia. Both are incumbents.

Two supplemental levy elections are scheduled in May: a $350,000 levy in Cottonwood School District 242, and $545,000 in Salmon River Joint School District 243.

Candidate declaration filings closed last Friday, March 20, for spring elections that also will include area highway, library, and water and sewer districts.

Absentee voting will open at the Idaho County Courthouse on April 20. Voting may be done at the county elections office, or absentee ballots may be requested. Call 983-2751.
