1A District II championship slated Friday

— Both of the Central Idaho League’s powerhouses have had Grangeville’s number this season, and that pattern continued in St. Maries’ 17-0 win over GHS last Monday, May 4.

During the 2A District I-II championship game, Orofino clobbered the Lumberjacks by a similar score, 15-0, thanks to a 10-run fourth inning.

Grangeville faced elimination against Kendrick Tuesday evening, May 5, with the Grangeville-Kendrick winner to face St. Maries in the consolation final, the winner of which will play a District III representative at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Payette High School.

The 2A state softball tournament is slated to run May 15-16 in Orofino.

Prairie locked up the No. 2 seed in the 1A District II softball tournament with a sweep of Potlatch last Thursday, April 30, at Lewiston. The Pirates bashed their way to wins of 12-7 and 16-11. Hailey Danly clubbed four extra-base hits during the opener and Sarah Seubert slugged three during the nightcap. On the day, Danly drove in five runs and Seubert drove in seven.

With the second seed in hand pending a Tuesday night double-header against winless Nezperce, the Pirates avoided the single elimination play-in round. The post-season is set to begin Thursday, May 7, at Orofino Elementary School, with play-in games at 5:30 p.m. and tournament games at 7 p.m.

At press time, sixth-seeded Clearwater Valley’s play-in round foe remained to be determined by the outcome of a Troy-Potlatch showdown on May 5.

Potlatch got the better of both halves of a double-header against the Rams last Saturday, May 2.

Kacee Miskin pitched both games and punched out three hits including a triple during the second game.

A play-in win would pit the Rams against top-seeded Genesee at 7 p.m. May 7, with the winner of that game to play for the district title at 5 p.m. May 8. The consolation berth will be decided at 6:30 p.m. May 8.
