COTTONWOOD — The weather is beautiful as I write this morning. Flowers are blooming and the grass is green. The king birds arrived last week about 10 days ahead of schedule. Everything needs rain, especially the fields and pastures. A lot of cattle have been moved to the summer pastures. The cows are happy to be out, and the ranchers are happy there are no more chores.

The Cottonwood School District spring concerts are coming up soon. Prairie Junior/Senior High School will be presenting their concert on Tuesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the PHS gym. The Prairie Elementary concert featuring all students from preschool thru sixth grade will be on Tuesday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in the PES gym. All are invited.

Cottonwood community yard sale is coming up on Saturday, May 16. Maps are available at the Mini Village and Cottonwood Foods, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Summit Academy is celebrating the month of May by honoring Mary, our Mother with a Rosary and May Crowning on May 8 at 8:30 a.m. This is a wonderful tradition at Summit to honor Mary the Mother of God, and all the mothers and grandmothers of the students.

The annual student-driven fund-raiser is scheduled for May 8. We will be hiking at the Fish Creek Recreation Area on Grangeville Mountain. Our hike will take place after the May Crowning on May 8. We will have a family picnic at Fish Creek Campground. Parents, grandparents and siblings of Summit students are welcome to attend. The hike will begin after lunch with several trails to choose from. Parents, the school bus, and the van will transport students to the picnic site. Let the office know if you are unable to attend the hike-a-thon so we can make transportation plans for your children. Students will need to let their teacher know which hiking trail they are planning to do. They are also doing a discounted Mystery Night ticket for $110 if you buy it before May 31. Contact any student or the school office at 962-5650 or if you have any questions.
