Grangeville sets Memorial Day events

GRANGEVILLE — Grangeville American Legion Post 37 is coordinating Memorial Day Events on Monday, May 25. At 9 a.m., all community members are invited to a memorial ceremony with presentation of wreaths at the Veterans Memorial at Prairie View Cemetery. Wreaths will be presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, the 40 & 8 and LeFemmes. An honor guard salute will follow. The ceremony will conclude with Taps. No seating is available.

The community Memorial Day service is scheduled for 11 a.m., at the Grangeville High School multipurpose room. Jinny Cash will coordinate the program that will include musical presentations by the Grangeville High School choir, reading of In Flander’s Field and presentation of Quilts of Valor. The guest speaker will be Richard Thomas Volz, Major (retired) United States Army. He is a Grangeville native who was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He served full time in the National Guard for more than 30 years and is a member of Grangeville American Legion Post 37. Call 983-5535.

Immediately following the 11 a.m. ceremony, the new military branches flag poles will be dedicated at the Veterans Memorial Park (between Asker’s Harvest Foods and Lucky Star). This is Marcus Gravatt’s Eagle Scout project and he is the first member of Troop 555 to reach this level.
