— Riggins school carnival sponsored by the Salmon River PTO is this Saturday, Nov. 7, from 6-9 p.m. at the Salmon River High School multi-purpose room. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Plan to have dinner there as they will be serving their famous carnival spaghetti for your dining pleasure. There will be exciting carnival-type games, face painting, bingo and a silent auction! The Salmon River PTO uses these funds to help sponsor more school activities and events for all students from pre-school-12th grades. Anyone in the community who would like to help at the school carnival contact Karen Adkins at 628-4101.

The District Champion Salmon River Lady Savages were given a great send-off to state volleyball tournament with an assembly at SRHS then continued as they drove through Riggins on the bus led by an Idaho County sheriff officer’s vehicle with sirens blowing followed by local fans and family honking their car horns. Blue and yellow balloons were flying throughout the town as screaming fans lined Main Street cheering and encouraging the Lady Savages! “Go Lady Savages!” The girls were smiling and laughing as they were being honored by Riggins businesses and Salmon River fans. Since the Salmon River Football Savages were heading to Cascade for the district football championship game, the two school busses stopped on Main Street to cheer each other on as they passed, the girls going north to Lewiston, the boys going south playing a day early in order to attend the girls’ state game.

Congratulations Lady Savages and coaches for two great sets at State Tournament. The girls played two tough teams losing their last set to a tiebreaker. Great job, ladies! Your community is proud of you!

Our dear friend and former Salmon River resident, Iva Catherman, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015. Iva and her late husband, Lynn, lived in Slate Creek and worked for the U.S.F.S. for many years. They had five children; their son, Dan, and wife, Kris, still live in Riggins. Iva was an amazing, loving, giving, sweet lady. Her family had just honored her at a Catherman family reunion in Oregon Oct. 24 and 25 with most of her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids in attendance. It turned out to be a great going-away party for their beloved mother.
