— Kooskia resident Tommy D. Paul, 72, died last week in a vehicle accident on State Highway 13.

The crash was reported at 1:59 p.m. last Wednesday, Nov. 11, at milepost 17.2, approximately five miles south of Stites, according to Idaho State Police. Paul was driving a 2001 Ford Escort northbound when for an unknown reason he drove off the right shoulder; no signs of braking were found at the scene, according to ISP Trooper Zach Nichols.

“He then impacted the side of the mountain, which caused the vehicle to roll onto the driver’s side,” he said, and Paul was partially ejected. He was not wearing a seat belt. The Escort’s air bags did deploy. Paul died at the scene.

Trenary Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Miles Towing provided wrecker services. ISP was assisted on scene by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, Kooskia Ambulance and Idaho Transportation Department.
