Register by Nov. 30 for free workshop set Dec. 2 on fire recovery for forest landowners

— University of Idaho Extension and the Idaho Department of Lands are conducting a free workshop in Kamiah on Dec. 2: After the Fire: Implications for Property Taxes, Income Taxes, and Insurance for Forest Landowners. Attendees should preregister by Nov. 30.

For landowners who suffered timber losses from the 2015 wildfires, information will be provided on property and income tax implications of those losses, as well as the tax implications of various land recovery options. There is also a concern with the liability from fire-caused hazards as well as insurance options to guard against timber losses from future fires.

The workshop will run 6 to 9 p.m., American Legion Hall, 618 Main Street. Speaker agenda will include the following: Bill Warren, UI Extension, Clearwater County; James Zehner, Idaho County Assessor; Calvin Hogg, CPA, Scott Taylor, Presnell Gage, PLLC; and Todd Marek, Northwest Insurance Agency.
