Savages on way to play-offs; Footballers play in Kibbie Dome Nov. 21

— Congratulations to the Salmon River Savages for winning the two playoff games for their right to play for the State Football Tournament Championship in eight-man football. The Salmon River Savages will play the Deary Mustangs in the Kibbie Dome Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. (PST)/8 p.m. (MST) for the State Championship! Go, Savages! If you can drive up to the game and cheer them on, go!

Happy 46th wedding anniversary to Buck and Jeannie Fitch on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Several Quilts of Valor made by the Pinehurst Quilters were awarded to Linnea “Beatle” Sohrakoff, Mike Lyman, Mike Blimka, Bruce Henderson, Ronald Blackner, Robert “Bob” Lawrence, Reed Vestel, John Purvis and Mike Adams at the Salmon River High School Veterans Day Program. Thank you, each one, for your service to America.

Several of the Quilts of Valor made by the Pinehurst Quilters for our local veterans are currently on display in Riggins City Hall during the month of November honoring all our veterans.

Food Drive for Thanksgiving and Christmas spearheaded by the Riggins Secret Santa Helpers and the Salmon River Community Food Pantry is ongoing. You can drop off food at Riggins City Hall, Riggins Whitewater Market or The Tourist Trap Consignment & Gift Shop. This will help ensure no family goes without a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. Suggested items are canned pumpkin, olives, cranberry sauce and stuffing.

A variety of Christmas events are upcoming for the holiday season including:

Toys for Tots for kids 12 and younger must have applications submitted to Riggins City Hall by this Monday, Nov. 23. Applications for each are available at Riggins City Hall, The Tourist Trap Consignment & Gift Shop and Riggins Elementary School.

Riggins Secret Santa for kids 18 and younger must have applications submitted to Riggins City Hall by Tuesday, Dec. 1. Applications for each are available at Riggins City Hall, The Tourist Trap Consignment & Gift Shop and Riggins Elementary School.

Thanksgiving dinners planned in Riggins area

Happy Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26. Lots of Thanksgiving events coming up including the following:

•The annual community-wide Thanksgiving potluck dinner will be held this Sunday night, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. at Salmon River High School multipurpose room. Everyone is invited. Turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing, rolls, beverages, plates and silverware will be furnished. Take a hot side dish, salad or dessert. •Thanksgiving Dinner for Salmon River High School, Riggins Elementary School, and Pre-school will be this coming Tuesday, Nov. 24, at their lunch times.

•Salmon River Senior Citizens will be serving their Thanksgiving dinner this coming Tuesday, Nov. 24, at noon. Everyone is invited to attend… there is a nominal fee for lunch.

The Christmas Open House at Idaho Banana Co. & Two Ladies Antiques, 1120 So. Main, Riggins, will be held next Friday, Nov. 27, from 6-8 p.m. Twill be a free evening of fun for everyone. There will be wine and beer tasting, food, music and… Christmas shopping if you would like.

The Annual Riggins Christmas Bazaar will be held next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day in the multipurpose room at Salmon River High School. I have the inside information that Santa will be visiting during this two-day extravaganza! Though nearly 20 booths are already reserved, some booth spaces are still available for you to display and sell your crafts, food items or other “wares.” Contact Jacki Campbell at 628-3742 or Laura Barner at 628-3412 to reserve your space.

Riggins Assembly of God Girls’ Ministry Bazaar will be the first weekend of December, Friday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All sorts of handmade treasures, gift baskets, gift sets, baked goods, wood crafts, signature signs, jewelry, knickknacks, Christmas decorations, cards, cosmetics and frozen cookie dough. All tables rented benefit the Girls Ministry. For table rental call Kathy Scheline at 630-4160.

The Riggins Secret Santas Giving Tree decorated with a wish list of each local child in need of extra help this Christmas is at Riggins Umpqua Bank. Return all donated gifts, unwrapped to Riggins City Hall by Friday, Dec. 11. If you would like to donate money to help with this program, make checks out to City of Riggins, with the notation, “Christmas Assistance Fund” and mail to P.O. Box 249, Riggins, ID 83549.

Riggins second annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, on Riggins Main Street at Two Rivers Coffee with hot coffee and hot chocolate to warm and refresh you. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join the celebration.

Chili feed will be held Sunday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. at Riggins Community Center sponsored by the Salmon River Seniors. Suggested donation of $5 is appreciated to help support meals, transit and food pantry for our local people.
