Whitepine League football: One-sided wins keep Kamiah, Prairie undefeated

Two weeks before the Whitepine League’s undefeated teams collide at Kamiah, the Pirates and Kubs made quick work of their Week 5 opposition.

Before the two powerhouses meet, Prairie (5-0, 3-0 WPL) will visit Troy (7 p.m. Oct 9) and host Potlatch (7 p.m. Oct. 16)

Kamiah (6-0, 4-0 WPL) has a bye week to mend whatever ails, and will visit Genesee (7 p.m. Oct. 17) before the Oct. 23 showdown with the Pirates.

Kamiah 62, Troy 6

KAMIAH — After Parker Whipple housed a 64-yard run, Kamiah never trailed last Friday night, Oct. 2.

Bailey Christopherson and Taylor McAlister each scored twice, Chris Pethtel scored on pass from Whipple.

Tanner Christopherson added two more scores during the third quarter.

Troy is “down a bit with injuries,” Kamiah coach Ryan Ball said. “With two good opponents coming up, it’s a good time to have a bye week, get healthy and work on fundamentals.”

Prairie 60, Lapwai 20

COTTONWOOD — Lapwai’s passing attack had averaged 48 points per game before Prairie shut it down last Friday night, Oct. 2. The Pirates defense did not allow a score during the first half. Jake Bruner had a hand in eight PHS scores, including five passes, two runs and a 50-yard fumble return.
