Salmon River beat Council (25-19, 25-22, 25-19) to secure a state tournament berth last night at McCall. On the strength of sharp serving by Payton Branstetter (six aces) and dominant play by Chevelle Shepherd and Sarah Laritz, SRHS qualified for the 1AD2 title tournament, which is to run Oct. 30-31 at Lewiston High School. Salmon River's first game is at 8 a.m. that Friday.

Coach Paula Tucker called it a "great team effort defensively, [with] tough serving and attacking."

Summit out

The Patriots took Deary to four games in what proved to be their last match of the season, but ultimately fell (18-25, 25-23, 13-25, 23-25). No other details were immediately available.
