Thursday, Oct. 22, outage planned in Kamiah area

Nearly 2,000 utility customers to be affected

— Power will be disrupted to the entire Kamiah area – nearly 2,000 utility consumers -- this Thursday for Avista crews to conduct multiple maintenance activities at the substation.

This Oct. 22 outage, planned for midnight to 4 a.m., will also affect Idaho County Light and Power Cooperative customers in the following areas: Pine Ridge Subdivision, Doty Ridge, Woodland, Pardee, Caribel, Glenwood, Beaverslide, Lawyer Creek and Kidder Ridge.

Total customer impact: approximately 1,100 for Avista and approximately 880 for ICLP.

“The main reason we are taking the shutdown is to make some adjustments to our power transformer to ensure our voltage levels stay within our standard bandwidth,” said Dan Austin, Avista’s Grangeville district manager. “We are also going to be cleaning all of our insulators in the substation that were contaminated with smoke particulates during the fires. This will help prevent outages caused by failing insulators.”

“Lastly,” he continued, “we plan to add wildlife guarding to the substation with the goal in mind of protecting the local wild life and limiting wild life caused outages similar to the Kooskia outage this past summer.”

Call Avista 1-800-227-9187 or ICLP, 983-1610.
