Contested races for city councils in Nov. 3 election

Candidates to vie in Grangeville, White Bird



UPDATE, Wed., Sept. 9 --(Editor’s preface: The following story has been updated from the print edition due to errors in candidate listings..)

City council races in Grangeville and White Bird will be contested in the Nov. 3 elections.

In Grangeville, three four-year-term council positions are open, sought by Amy Farris, Peter Lane, Daniel Gautney and Michael Peterson.

In White Bird, the four-year-term mayor position is sought by Rick Alley and Rod Pilant. Two four-year-term council seats are open, sought by Homer Brown, Janis Ann Owen-Comrie and Darlene Wadsworth.

Coming up short are filings in Riggins and Stites. Of two four-year-term council seats open in Riggins, only Carolyn Friend has filed. In Stites, no filings were made for the mayor position; running unopposed for two four-year-term council seats are Josh Bradley and Gerald J. Cathey.

Unopposed races:

• Cottonwood: Denis Duman for mayor; John J. (Jack) Duman and Shelli Schumacher for council (two four-year terms open).

• Ferdinand: Gabriel Riener for mayor (four-year term); and for council (two four-year terms) Judy Forsman, Maria Imhoff and (one two-year term) Scott Oliver.

• Kooskia: Charlotte Schilling for mayor; Donald Coffman and Martin Stettler (two four-year terms) for council; and no filings were made for a two-year-term council position.

Candidate filing ran from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4. Deadline is this Friday, Sept. 18, for write-in candidates to file in order to be considered on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Other Races

A four-year-term board position is contested with the Grangeville Cemetery District between John J. Lamb and Bruce Battles.
