RIGGINS — The start date for the Race Creek Bridge project is Monday, Sept. 21. Idaho Transportation Department has scheduled a public information meeting today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at Riggins Community Center - Upper Level, to review schedules and plans for the Race Creek Bridge Project. Our dear friend, Charity Eckwortzel, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, at her home with her husband, Jim, by her side. Charity fought a long battle with cancer, but now is in a good place. God bless her. Funeral services for Charity will be Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Salmon River Community Church with a celebration and dinner following for family and friends. Salmon River Art Guild will be hosting its annual Fall Regional Art Show at the Riggins Community Center, behind the Chevron station, former IOOF Hall. Art by regional artists will be accepted Friday, Oct. 2. Ward Hooper from Boise will be the judge this year. Ribbons and monetary awards will be presented to the artists immediately following the judging Friday evening. The art show will open at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, for public enjoyment. For information about entering your art, contact the SRAG at

The City of Riggins Fire Department has chimney brushes available for use free of charge for private homes. Contact Riggins City Hall to check out a brush and clean your chimney to help make your home safe for those wood-burning days ahead.

Volunteers are needed in the concessions for Salmon River School volleyball games. Most games are only about an hour - every hour helps. Contact Rhonda at ASK to help, 628-2770. We always need help cleaning up after games too - so if you’re an avid fan and don’t want to miss a game, we would love the help pushing in the bleachers and sweeping up. The more help we have the less work it is! Thanks for your help. “Win $100!” The Salmon River Boosters need a volunteer to grill its hamburgers at home games. Contact Susan Shepherd if you can help. Every time you volunteer to help in the Salmon River Booster Club concession stand, your name will be entered in a drawing. When football season is over the Booster Club will draw one name and that person will win $100! A big thank you to Jeff and Debora Dean for grilling hamburgers at the first home game of the season last weekend.

Donations for the first annual Canyon Coat Drive can be made at Riggins City Hall, Riggins Tackle Shop, Riggins Post Office and Tourist Trap. New, clean or gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves are needed. All items will be available for a free shopping day at the Riggins Community Center Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon-6 p.m. In lieu of payment, non-perishable food items may be donated… one for a youth coat, two for an adult coat.

Alacca Bible Camp is having its annual ladies retreat Oct. 16-18. Any lady wanting to attend may contact Judy Thibodeaux for registration information.
