On Aug. 3, four of us followed Father Paul to NICI to begin the StoryLink program with the inmates. StoryLink is where an inmate chooses a children’s book for his child/grandchild/ niece/nephew and reads it aloud into a recorder that immediately burns it to a CD. Then the CD and the book are mailed to the child. Mary Ann Kojis and her husband met us there to train our little group. Mary Ann has started Story-Link in other Idaho prisons, and she has developed an efficient, organized method. We were surprised how easy and rewarding the evening was. Ten men read that night, and every one of them was very appreciative of the opportunity to do this fun thing for his child. We are trying to get enough volunteers to go to the prison every two weeks on Monday evenings, 6-8 p.m. Each week has different inmates recording. If we had a few more volunteers then we could set a schedule so not all have to be there each time. The State of Idaho requires training for anyone who volunteers at the prisons. Two times are available this year, Oct. 8 at the Cottonwood Community Hall, and Oct. 10 at the Training Room, 2150 Michigan, Orofino. Training is 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and you need to bring your own lunch and your photo identification. Call the Tri-Parish office if you are interested in carpooling to Orofino. If you have questions about the program, contact Raina at 507-2005 or e-mail rainafrei@gmail.com.

Did you see the lunar eclipse last night? Wasn’t that something to see! We don’t get very many chances to experience something like that, especially since it was in the evening before everyone was in bed.

Farmers are busy with fall seeding and gardeners are wondering when the first frost will come to end the season for the beautiful flowers that have bloomed all summer. My dahlias are still OK this morning.
