Boise man charged with manslaughter for 2014 vehicle accident

— Misdemeanor charges have been filed against a Boise man in connection with a 2014 vehicle accident that claimed the life of his girlfriend and her 2-year-old son.

Boone Hallmark, 31, was to be arraigned yesterday, Aug. 2, in magistrate court on two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Charges resulted from a July 2, 2014, early morning accident on U.S. Highway 12 at Lowell. According to court records, Hallmark was driving a 2003 Chevrolet PT Cruiser eastbound when he is alleged to have fallen asleep, and the vehicle went off the south edge of the highway and rolled into the Lochsa River. The vehicle settled on its wheels, fully submerged.

Hallmark was able exit the vehicle but was unable to release Talia D. Rushing, 21, and Layton L. Hallmark, 2, both of Boise, before being swept away in the river. He subsequently went to the Wilderness Hotel where the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office was advised of the crash.

Idaho State Police investigated the incident.
