Did someone walk off with some of your personal property last year? Larceny was the top reported offense in Idaho County for 2015, according to Idaho State Police statistics released in July in its annual Crime in Idaho report.
Within the top five crimes for Idaho County last year, 98 larceny offenses were reported, down by four from 2014; 60 simple assaults, down by 25; 55 vandalism incidents, up two; 54 drug equipment matters, up by 32; and 49 burglaries, up by nine.
Overall offenses, 432, are up from 2014 to 2015 by 13.1 percent, and of these 249 (57.6 percent) were cleared. Within the five-year trend, 2015 marks the second highest year for offenses, below 448 in 2013; the low was 382 in 2014.
Arrests were up last year by 1.1 percent for a total 445, of which 422 were adults and 23 were juveniles. Within the five-year trend, 2015 was the second highest, below 487 in 2011; low was 344 in 2012.
Other notable offenses reported in 2015: 43 drug/narcotics with 41 cleared with 38 adults and six juveniles arrested; 24 aggravated assaults with 23 cleared and 20 adult arrests; and 11 frauds with none cleared and one adult arrest.
Breaking It Down
Idaho County Sheriff’s Office
Offenses handled by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) were up 17.9 percent in 2015 for a total 303; 197 (65 percent) were cleared. Larceny was the top offense for 2015 at 61 reports, followed by drug equipment (53), burglary (40), drug/narcotics (37) and simple assault (34).
Last year was ICSO’s five-year high for offenses, the low at 257 in 2014. Arrests in 2015 were also the five-year high at 358, a 17.4 percent increase from 2014; the low was 276 in 2013. Last year 341 adults (up 56 from 2014) and 17 juveniles (down by three) were arrested.
Other notable offenses included vandalism (32), aggravated assault (19) and intimidation (seven).
Grangeville Police Department
Only three offenses in the City of Grangeville were in the double digits for 2014: larceny, 33 (down two from last year); vandalism, 23 (up 15); and simple assault, 21 (down 14).
A total 115 offenses were reported in 2015, up 10.6 from the prior year, of which 41 (35.7 percent) were cleared. Within the city, 77 arrests were made, down 36.9 percent from 2014, of which 71 were adults (down 40 from 2014) and six juveniles (down by five).
Other notable offenses included nine burglaries, eight frauds, six drug/narcotics and three motor vehicle thefts.
Cottonwood Police Department
Top three offenses for the City of Cottonwood were simple assault (five), larceny (four) and aggravated assault (three). Overall, 14 offenses were reported in 2015, down 33.3 percent from the prior year, with 11 cleared (78.6 percent); this is the five-year low with 29 in 2011 being the high.
Last year, 10 arrests were made, all adults (down one from 2014), a 23.1 percent decrease from 2014; 2015 also marks the five-year low for arrests with the high at 19 in 2011.
