Unrelated accidents claim lives of two Kamiah men

Unrelated accidents claimed the lives of two Kamiah residents last week.

Edward D. Schippmann, 57, died of injuries suffered as the result of a motorcycle accident last Friday afternoon, July 29, along State Highway 13. Jonathan M. Leach, 30, died of injuries suffered in an equipment accident at Kooskia last Thursday afternoon, July 28.

Edward, along with his wife, Beverly Schippmann, 52, was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound when at milepost 15 (Sally Ann Road intersection) they crashed just before 2 p.m. after passing a semi. According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle went off the east side of the roadway and ejected the couple. A witness stated it appeared Edward over-leaned the bike while attempting to straighten back into his lane of travel.

As of press time Tuesday, Beverly was listed in satisfactory condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

ICSO was assisted on the scene by Kooskia Ambulance.

Last Thursday, July 28, Leach was working near an excavator on Ridgewood Drive when, according to ICSO, the ground gave way beneath the equipment and it rolled over on him. The incident was reported at 4:13 p.m.

ICSO investigated the incident.
