— It rained on the Raspberry Festival on Sunday, but a lot of people stayed around anyway. Some came after the rain. The art show was a popular event for the first time this year. Local artists were invited to show off their work. The sisters work very hard to make everyone feel welcome.

The Idaho County Republican Central Committee will meet Tuesday, Aug. 16, 6 p.m., at the Super 8 meeting room for their regular monthly meeting. They will be participating in the Elk City Days Parade Aug. 13. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Main Street. Sign-ups should be at the post office parking lot. They will also be planning the fair booth and could use volunteers to man the booth. They will have a float in the Idaho County Fair Parade. All candidates are welcome to ride/work in the parade and booth.

Join Bishop Peter and the Diocese of Boise for the Mass of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary at Cataldo Mission Aug. 15, 11 a.m. All are invited as the bishop will reconsecrate the diocese to Mary at that liturgy. A special Mass will also be at Assumption Church in Ferdinand at 6 p.m. that day.

Holy Cross Church was burglarized July 24, causing possibly $20,000 in damage. Reported missing were a case of sacramental wine, petty cash, the key to the main tabernacle and other items. Several doors were damaged and the front door was left open. We are asked to pray for the people involved in this incident.

The Idaho County Fair is coming up next week. I’m sure all the 4-H kids are working on their projects. It should be a good fair this year since harvest was early and more people will be able to go and enjoy the fair.

The other evening I was taking Luke, a grandson, home when we saw a rattler on the road near our place. I turned around immediately and ran him over. I went back and forth a few times, injuring the snake. Luke got out and directed me to drive over him. He said it exploded. Then I backed up and parked right on top of him. Luke cut off the rattles, 15 of them! That is the biggest rattler I have ever seen. We are so glad we got it as it was headed to our place.
