Football season opens Aug. 26 at Moscow
GRANGEVILLE — Football season is coming up, starting with a scrimmage 4-6 p.m. Aug. 19 at GHS, and the season opener will be 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Moscow.
Soccer teams to play first games Aug. 20
GRANGEVILLE — GHS soccer squads will play their first games on Aug. 20 at Moscow.
GHS v-ball practice set to begin Aug. 12
GRANGEVILLE – Volleyball practice is set to begin Aug. 12, with sessions at 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. that day, a 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. session Aug. 13, and both morning and evening sessions Aug. 15.
A parent meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at GHS. Physicals are due before the first practice for new participants at GHS, freshmen and juniors.
Jakes Day set Aug. 14
The annual Jakes Day of outdoor activities and demonstrations for kids ages six to 14 will be held 12:30-5 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Camas Prairie Bowmen Range, located south of town on the Grangeville-Salmon Road.
Registration is $10, first come, first served, for up to 60 participants. Forms are available at B&B Bargain, United Country Real Estate and Mountain View Dentistry in Grangeville and at Arnzen Drug in Cottonwood.
GEMS football sign-ups open
GRANGEVILLE – Middle school football sign-ups are open now, with forms available at Northwest Insurance and online at idahocountyfreepress.com.
Gear handout is set for Aug. 24, 4-6 p.m., near the field ticket gate at GHS. Practice will be after school at GHS. Fee is $50, and scholarships are available.

Soccer sign-ups set
GRANGEVILLE — Youth soccer sign-ups are set for 5-7 p.m. Aug. 18 at GEMS community room. Grangeville Youth Soccer will be on display at the Idaho County Fair, near the gazebo. Cost is $35.
It’s open to grades pre-K to eight. Games for those up to sixth grade will start Sept. 8 and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of September, with a tournament Oct. 1.
The junior high age group will have tournaments on Sept. 10 and in October.

St. Mary’s Hospital plans 17th Annual golf scramble
St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics will be hosting their annual golf scramble on Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Grangeville Country Club. All proceeds will go towards the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.
“We limit the number of four-person teams to 15 and use the scramble format so everyone is guaranteed a good time,” said Ashley Steinbruecker, SMH Foundation Coordinator.
Registration for the tournament begins at noon with tee off at 1 p.m. Each team must use every player’s drive at least twice. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third-place teams.
