COTTONWOOD The first Whitepine League match of the season went to Prairie (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) against Kamiah last Thursday evening, Aug. 25. Chaye Uptmor booked eight kills and Angela Wemhoff booked five as the Pirates overpowered Kamiah.
Elsewhere in the WPL, Troy beat Potlatch to match PHS at 1-0 in the league standings.
Last Saturday, Aug. 27, the Pirates went 1-2 at the Lewiston Tournament, where they beat Pendleton 2-1, lost to Lewiston 2-0, and lost to Kellogg 1-2.
“Interestingly enough, Pendleton beat Kellogg in two sets earlier in the day,” PHS coach Cheyenne Hudson said. “I believe we could have beat Kellogg. We had too many errors.”
Hudson said the Pirates’ serves were “great all day,” at the tournament, and that PHS was “able to get other teams out of system.”
“Our defense and hustle were strong,” she added. “We had moments of confusion but overall, it was good.”
Coming — Prairie (2-2, 1-0 Whitepine League) was set to play at Genesee on Aug. 30 and is scheduled to visit Troy on Thursday night, Sept. 1.
