COTTONWOOD Mega kudos to the people who put up the cross on Grangeville mountain. We can see it from everywhere on the prairie. It reminds us to “Stand up for Jesus” as we were told at Mardel Sonnen’s funeral last week.
Prairie Elementary will have their Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., at the elementary gym. Performing will be the fourth-grade students in band and choir. They will be presenting songs from “The Nutcracker.”
Friday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m., in the elementary gym features the Prairie kindergarten through third grade students doing a variety of holiday songs.
Prairie Junior Senior High concert will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m., in the junior-senior high gym. We hope you can attend any or all of these. It will perk up your Christmas spirit!
This week on Thursday, Dec. 8, we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary with mass at 7 a.m., St. Mary’s; Assumption at 12 noon; 7 p.m. St. Anthony.
The lighted Christmas Parade is set for Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. Parade lineup will be in the St. Mary’s church parking lot at 4:30 p.m. After the parade, head down to the fire station for Santa Cabana and enjoy hot dogs, hot cocoa, coffee, and have your child’s picture with Santa! They will be collecting unwrapped gifts for the St. Mary’s Hospital Giving Tree. Cottonwood Saddliers and Livestock 4-H Club is in charge of the parade. Call Tara Rowland 962-7071.
History book goes into third printing
COTTONWOOD — The Historical Museum of St. Gertrude has announced an upcoming third volume to “150 Years, Our Story,” the collection of first-person histories from ancestors of local families in this area. The first two books are now in their third printing and the book’s success has inspired a third volume. Submissions are now being accepted for the third volume. Families wanting to submit a story must have roots in this area. Submit on a disk or e-mail to Shirley Gehring at firstname.lastname@example.org or mail to Historical Museum, 465 Keuterville Road, Cottonwood, ID 83522. Submissions must be received by July 1, 2017. Any questions may be directed to Shirley at 962-2053.
The Advent Penance service schedule is St. Mary’s, Cottonwood, Dec. 13; Holy Trinity, Nezperce, Dec. 14; St. Anthony, Greencreek, Dec. 19; Sts. Peter and Paul, Grangeville, Dec. 20; All Saints, Lewiston, Dec. 21. All at 7 p.m.
Father Paul has announced the Christmas Mass schedule. There will be three masses on Dec. 24: St. Mary’s at 5 p.m.; Assumption at 7 p.m.; and St. Anthony at 9 p.m. St. Mary’s will have another mass at midnight on Dec. 25.
Dec. 12 will be the Catholic 200 class again at St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. Last month was a very good talk by Eric Wassmuth on the subject of marriage and the family. It was a very interesting talk with time for discussion afterwards while having snacks and drinks.
