Our life doesn’t belong to ourselves, to do with what we want

Letter to the Editor

In regard to the full-page ad on the last page, in section A, of the Dec. 14 Free Press entitled, “No matter what, Never Give Up, keep going.”

Though we may tell ourselves differently, our life does not belong to ourselves to do with it whatever we want to do—up to, and including, the extreme step of ending our life. The truth is, our life has been loaned out to us by our Creator to do His will on Earth and glorify Him. He has picked the time and location for our birth and He wants to pick the time and location for our death, without our interference.

Though we may tell ourselves to the contrary, the truth is, there is no easy way out. We can certainly escape the trials, hardships and disappointments of this life by taking what appears to be the suicidal, easy way out, but we can’t escape our Creator who will know that we have wasted the life that He has given to us by throwing away that life in self-destruction. When we decide to take matters into our own hands and cut short that God-given, precious life of ours, then we must share a place in eternal hell right along with all of those who have lived for self-gratification their whole lives.

But the good now is, the Lord Jesus Christ has shared in our life and death, so that we might share right now in His life on Earth and someday share in His resurrected, eternal life. For the Christian, the Lord gives true purpose for living each day. Catchwords and slogans do not give a purpose for living. Church socials do not give a purpose for living. Only Jesus can provide that solid, unshakable foundation and purpose for living, one day at a time.
