Prairie rips Clearwater Valley

Boys basketball

— After taking their first loss of the season Saturday, Dec. 17, 59-38 at Lapwai, the Pirates hammered Clearwater Valley 74-29 on Monday night, Dec. 19.

Holding Rams’ point guard Trey Pfefferkorn to two points, PHS got 17 apiece from Tyson Schlader and Patrick Chmelik, and 12 from Brandon Anderson.

CV’s Josh Kolb scored 13.

Against Lapwai, the Pirates were held without a double-digit scorer — and the contest brought clarity to the top of the Whitepine League standings.

Lapwai now leads the league title race with a 2-0 WPL record, and Prairie’s 3-1 mark has the Pirates solidly in second place.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Potlatch beat CV 64-48 despite yielding double-digit points to Ram forwards Mitch Morrow (13) and Kamm Mangun (11). Kolb added 10.

Next, CV (3-3, 1-2 WPL) is slated to host Genesee Dec. 29.

Prairie (5-1, 3-1 WPL) is on winter break through Jan. 3, when the Pirates will take on Asotin in Cottonwood.
