Break-ins may be related; GPD advises precautions

Main Street establishments hit

— Main Street businesses are advised to take precautions following an attempted break-in early this week that may be related to two separate burglaries last month.

Investigation is under way into an incident that occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Blown Away Salon on East Main Street. According to ordinance officer Rick Thanstrom, Grangeville Police Department, an unsuccessful attempt was made to kick in a back door of the business. Damage estimates are around $500.

Characteristics of this crime appear to match those in two separate Main Street burglaries both reported on Jan. 24: a forced back door entry break-in at both Oscar’s Restaurant and the United Methodist Church, at which the suspect or suspects stole whatever was available at hand. In all three incidents, GPD officers are continuing to process evidence and visit witnesses. Contact GPD, 983-1351, with information related to these incidents.

To assist businesses, Thanstrom is offering businesses an on-site evaluation to provide recommendations to secure their locations and “take steps to better protect themselves,” he said. Contact him at 507-0337.
