WHITE BIRD NEWS: Try to make an effort to show up

Nicole L. Lowe 839-2777

— There wasn’t a very big turnout for the potluck at the school last Sunday. For those of us who did show up, we ate great food and enjoyed ourselves. I just don’t understand why all you people who voted to save the school aren’t showing up to use it. Or even those of you who voted against it? Either way, it’s ours now, and I’m disappointed in all of you who aren’t making an effort to support it. Step up people! Join in! Be a positive part of your community for crying out loud!

The town is trying to raise some money to help pay for the electric bill accrued over Christmas. You can buy Valentine hearts and put any message you want on it. The hearts will decorate the tree in the park. They cost $1 each and you can buy them at the Silver Dollar and Canyon House. They might also be found at other businesses. I’m just not sure.

You can buy tickets to win one of the Rebekahs’ wonderful Valentine baskets that they will be giving away. You can find tickets at the local businesses. These baskets are always full of all kinds of great stuff, so you won’t want to miss out on a chance to win one. The winners of the baskets will be drawn at the Fireman’s Valentine dance and auction at Hoot’s on Feb. 13. You do not have to be present to win. Support your lady Rebekahs.

Red’s has take and bake pizzas for Super Bowl Sunday

WHITE BIRD — Red’s River Café will offer take and bakes this Sunday for your Super Bowl party. You can preorder any pizza that you want, but there will be a special on Hawaiian’s for $15 and combos for $20. Or you could just watch the game at Red’s. There will be a full menu until 1 p.m. After 1 p.m. for the Super Bowl party there will be wings, nacho bar and pizza. Join the party. There will be door prizes and roses for sale for your sweetheart.

Red’s will also be having a Valentine’s dinner featuring bacon wrapped pork loin or chicken fettuccine. Reservations are not required but greatly appreciated, 839-9977.

The Fireman’s Valentine dance and auction is on Saturday, February 13 at Hoot’s. This is a huge fund-raiser for all Grangeville, Riggins, White Bird and the Salmon River Rural fire departments. It starts at 7 p.m. There will be a live and silent auction. There will also be live music by Joaquin and Verna Lowe and Dave Dixon. The live auction will take place during the band’s breaks until everything is auctioned off. If you would like to donate something to this wonderful fund-raiser, you can drop it off at Canyon House. Hoot’s will be serving up prime rib, baby back and New York steaks in the restaurant, so it would also be a good night to take your sweetheart out to dinner first. Support your local firemen. The money we raise is always appreciated and much needed. Cost to get in is $5 a person. Must be 21 years or older to attend the fireman’s ball. They will be unable to take credit cards for the auction. Cash or check only.

There is also going to be a Super Bowl party this Sunday at the Silver Dollar. Bring finger food and watch the game in the front or the back. Everyone is welcome!

The cribbage tournament last Saturday brought in 18 players. Dot took first and Jim got second. They play crib every Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Silver Dollar. Everyone is welcome to join.

Happy birthday this week to: Emily Kernutt, Stan Wilson, Smiley, Wayne Pierstorff, Mollie Pearce, Guy Ellibee, Bill Fogleman, Larry and Jan Barany, Scott Hagen, Mathew Bauman, Janet Klement, Daryl Mullinix and Tim Emig.
