Witless attempt to rid country of forest land

Letter to the Editor

Commissioner Chmelik underestimates the intelligence of his constituents. Most of us can see the inconsistency between him 1) whining about not having enough money for roads and schools (which is the basis for his enthusiastic land exchange support), and 2) giving away $15,000 of our money (without asking) in a witless attempt to rid the county of national forest land we all love.

Yes, that’s right, he and our other commissioners gave away $10,000 to a guy named Ken Ivory, the Utah politician who has been accused of fraud for scamming local governments into giving taxpayer dollars to his business called the American Lands Council.

This gave Commissioner Chmelik the idea to start his own American Lands Council. He calls it the Coalition of Counties.

Most politicians don’t use tax dollars to feather their own financial nests. When will Mr. Chmelik pay us back the $15,000 he frittered away?

It isn’t right to force us to pay attorney’s fees to recover our money.
