WHITE BIRD Alcohol is a suspected factor in last week’s rollover accident outside White Bird that claimed the lives of two men.
Dustin L. Stamper, 31, of Grangeville, and Colin G. Sprute, 48, of Orofino, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, nearly six miles up Deer Creek Road, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO). Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
The accident occurred sometime during the night of Feb. 10, according to ICSO. The 1997 Dodge pickup the pair were traveling in was southbound, failed to negotiate a curve at milepost 5.9, went off the roadway, rolled multiple times and stopped approximately 225 feet down the ravine.
The following morning, Feb. 11, ICSO dispatch was advised at 8:05 a.m. of a vehicle off the roadway. ICSO Deputy Mike Brewster, Syringa Ambulance and Syringa Extrication responded to the location.
Both victims were taken to Blackmer Funeral Home. Families have been notified.
