Luke Stokes scored 14 points, Layton Harris scored 10 and Grangeville ripped Coeur d'Alene Charter 67-40 on the second night of the Central Idaho League's district tournament Tuesday night, Feb. 23. By thrashing Charter, the Bulldogs set up a rematch with first round nemesis Orofino, which tagged GHS 58-39 on the tournament's first night. Grangeville will play Orofino at 7 p.m. tonight at Troy.
Against Charter, Grangeville shot the ball far more effectively (45 percent) than the Bulldogs had against Orofino (35 percent). Most striking: GHS went seven-for-16 from three-point range against the Panthers, having shot one-for-15 from the arc against the Maniacs. Meanwhile, the Maniacs shot 67 percent from the field and six-for-13 on threes.
Stokes contributed much of the swing in Grangeville's shooting percentage, banging four of seven trey tries against Charter, having taken no threes the night before.
The winner of tonight's elimination game will play St. Maries for the district title. To qualify for state tournament play, the winner would need to beat the Lumberjacks twice: Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27. The Lumberjacks need only one more win to advance.
